Adoption Order
Before you begin your search, you should have or should apply for your adoption order (adoptees only) and your non-identifying information (all persons) from the Children’s Aid Society that handled the adoption.

Non-identifying Information is a social history profile about your birth family and the circumstances leading to your adoption.

For Adoptees born in Canada and taken to the USA
If you are an Adoptee born in Canada but adopted by American adoptive parents and taken to the United States, contact the U.S. Department of Immigration and obtain a copy of your entry visa. This form should show your full birth name and is required for all persons taking up permanent residence in the U.S.A.
