The First Step
Our sole purpose is to act as a Reunion Registry and Assistance Service. If you decide to register with us, you must recognize that a match may very well be found.
Be Prepared for Contact
By registering with CARI, you agree that you want to make contact with your birth relative(s) and you grant us permission to initiate that contact. If you do not want contact or are unsure, please do not register with CARI.
If you do not want contact or are unsure, please do not register with CARI.
If you decide to register, please be aware that, in order to keep our registry relevant and current, we will remove your registration after 2 years if it is not renewed. This is a simple matter of resubmitting the Registration Form, marked ‘update information.’
PRIORITY MEDICAL SEARCH - If you require a Priority Search for medical reasons, please contact us directly.
How to Fill Out the CARI Registration Form
Please review these brief instructions before proceeding to the REGISTRATION button at the bottom of this page:
- Register annually to keep your information current and available.
- Send us updated information by completing a registration form for the following: new e-mail address, phone number or upon receiving your birth name.
- The birth name is the name you were given when you were born before adoption. If you don't know your birth name, please leave it blank. If you know the first letter of your birth surname, include it eg... s___________.
- Adoptive name is the name after the adoption has been completed.
- Mandatory fields are marked and must be filled out or your submission will not be accepted.
- If you do not include an e-mail address, it makes our contacting you more difficult.
- If you are searching on behalf of deceased person, please contact us by phone or email to make special arrangements.
- To see if your update or renewal has been noted, please look at your current listing. Your latest submission will be the updated version posted to the net.
- If you are unsure of birth date, select Jan 01 & year of birth. Include a note in comments that you do not know exact birth date.
- City of birth is as shown on the birth certificate, except Quebec, where it will depend on where the baptism certificate is issued.
- Error while registering. Hit the back arrow on your browser and you can check what you have put on the form.
- If you are an adoptee looking for an adoptee, where the form asks for birth information, please enter information for the adoptee you are looking for, not your information.
- For anyone born prior to 1930 or where the person is not over the age of 18, the information will be kept in our offline database, but will not be posted to the net. If we get a match, we will notify you.
- In order to complete a registration, you must have the permission of the party searching in order to be posted on the net. Put party searching info under current name, address & phone number. Put your contact info in the text box at the bottom of the form – except you may put your email address under current info if party searching does not have email access. Please, no groups, paid searchers or search angels.
- Text box info is for additional information from your non-identifying information document. Be brief as space is limited to 254 characters.
- If you don't see your registration in 72 hours, please re-submit and be sure that you have answered all necessary questions completely.
Why Does My Listing Not Appear?
Most of the time, if your listing has not appeared within 72 hours of registration, it is because the registration form was not filled out completely or correctly. Please check the following common problems:
- Birth mom and birth sister have registered separately. Only one listing will appear on birth mom page (happens when, for instance, birth mom and birth sister are both searching)
- Incomplete current name and address
- No phone number
- No birth surname (when birth parent/relative or sibling searching)
- Child is underage – must be 18 or older
- Registration information does not make sense (For instance, birth mom looking for birth mom – yes, it happens!)
- Male has a female name
- Birth granddaughter/grandson (child of adoptee) will not be posted unless you know the full birth name, as only the adoptee can apply for, and receive, this information and we would have no way of making a match without a full birth name
