You are entitled to this information under Ontario's Child & Family Services Act.
If your adoption was handled through a Children's Aid Society, you must apply to that agency.

that is, through a doctor or lawyer, apply directly to the Ministry AT

If you do not know who handled your adoption,
you may ask your adoptive parents or other family member, or you can contact the Ministry AT SERVICE ONTARIO.CA.

Non-indenifying information should contain the following -

  1. -birth details that relate to the adoptee
  2. -care of the adoptee prior to the placement
  3. -date of placement
  4. -date of the adoption order
  5. -description of the adopting family: approx. ages, levels of education, physical characteristics, hobbies, ethnic origin and fields of employment.
  6. -name of placement agency and follow up
Please note that most agencies have extensive waiting lists for the provision of Non-identifying history, but this information is invaluable when conducting a search, so apply as soon as possible.

non-identifying information takes any where from 30 days to (2) years in TORONTO and up to (4) years in some other locations.
